Background: Give AI the Full Picture

Think about what happens when you walk into a room in the middle of a conversation. You catch pieces. Someone mentions a project, a deadline, a problem. But you cannot really help, because you do not know what came before.

AI starts every single prompt in that exact position. It does not know who you are, what you are building, or why it matters. Unless you tell it.

Background is how you close that gap.

What this layer means

Background is the context layer. Before you ask AI to create anything, you answer three simple questions. Who are you? What is the project? Why does it matter?

You do not need paragraphs. A few clear sentences is enough. The goal is for AI to understand what it is working on before it starts working.

Why prompts fail without it

When AI has no background, it fills the gaps with guesses. And guesses come out generic. That is why so many results feel like they were written for nobody in particular. They were. AI did not know who it was writing for, so it wrote for everyone, which is the same as no one.

The frustration most people blame on AI is usually just missing context.

Before and after

Before

Write me a caption for my Instagram post.

After

I am a digital education brand founder who helps beginners feel confident with technology. My brand voice is warm, professional, and approachable. I am posting a reel about why most people struggle with AI tools and how to fix it. Write me a caption for it.

Same request. Completely different result. The second version tells AI who is speaking, who is listening, and what the post is about. Now the output can actually sound like you.

Your takeaway

Try this one-sentence formula before your next prompt: "I am [who you are] building [what you are building] for [who it is for]. The goal is [what you want to achieve]."

One sentence of background can transform the quality of everything AI gives you.

Background is the first of nine layers. In the full Experience, you practice it with guided exercises and build it into prompts you can save and reuse.
